These 6,700-tonne vessels represent a leap forward in indigenous design, boasting enhanced stealth features with reduced radar signatures, a Combined Diesel or Gas (CODOG) propulsion system for speeds up to 30 knots, and a formidable arsenal including BrahMos supersonic missiles, Barak-8 surface-to-air missiles, Varunastra torpedoes, a 76mm main gun, and advanced sensors like Humsa-NG sonar. With over 75% indigenous content, they embody the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ vision, supporting thousands of jobs through MSMEs and marking INS Udaygiri as the 100th ship designed by the Navy’s Warship Design Bureau. Now joining the Eastern Fleet, these multi-mission guardians will bolster India’s blue-water capabilities, securing vital sea lanes in the Indian Ocean Region amid evolving geopolitical challenges.
