Fugitive diamantaire Mehul Choksi, accused in the ₹13,500 crore Punjab National Bank scam, is back in the spotlight after being spotted and briefly detained in Belgium by Interpol. Choksi, who fled India in January 2018 and soon after acquired citizenship of Antigua and Barbuda, has been evading Indian authorities despite an ongoing extradition process. In 2021, he was allegedly abducted and taken to Dominica, only to return to Antigua after securing bail. Now, in 2025, his sudden appearance in Belgium has reignited diplomatic and legal efforts to bring him back. Choksi faces a slew of serious charges including money laundering, criminal conspiracy, document forgery, destruction of evidence, and large-scale fraud against Indian banks…
