Theory Suggests Asteroid Kamo'oalewa Originated from the Moon | WION Podcast

A team of astronomers, led by Yifei Jiao from Tsinghua University, proposes that the near-Earth asteroid Kamo’oalewa may have originated from the Moon. Discovered in 2016, the asteroid, measuring between 130 and 328 feet in diameter, is thought to have broken off from the Giordano Bruno crater on the Moon. The team’s research suggests the existence of more small asteroids made from lunar material in near-Earth space. The asteroid’s unique orbit and spectral analysis align with the Moon’s composition, leading scientists to further investigate its potential lunar origins.
