'The Right Engine Sustained More Damage': Final Report Into Jeju Crash Expected In June '26 | WION

New findings in the investigation of the Jeju Air crash at Muan Airport reveal that one of the aircraft’s engines was still capable of flight when the pilots shut it down during an emergency landing.

The Boeing 737-800, which crashed in December after a bird strike, belly-landed without its landing gear, overshot the runway, and exploded into flames: Killing all but two of the 181 people on board.

According to a July 19 update seen by Reuters, the left engine, which sustained less damage, was shut down just 19 seconds after the strike. The right engine, though emitting flames and black smoke, was still generating enough power for flight.
