The LongForm Story: Theft Or A Wake-Up Call?
Navy Agniveer Rakesh Dubbala and his brother Umesh from Telangana were arrested for stealing an INSAS rifle, three magazines, and 40 bullets from Navy Nagar in Mumbai.
The theft occurred on the final day of Ganpati celebrations, with Rakesh impersonating a reliever to deceive a junior sailor and hand over the weapon to Umesh outside the compound.
The police recovered all stolen items and are investigating whether the stolen rifle was intended for Naxal groups. This case highlights significant security gaps within sensitive military zones and raises serious concerns about vigilance protocols under the Agnipath scheme.
