Scientists have discovered a new type of radio-emitting neutron star, located 1,300 light-years away in the Milky Way. This neutron star, named PSR J0941-4046, rotates incredibly slowly, completing one rotation every 76 seconds. The strange pulses emitted from the star are only detectable during a small fraction of its rotation, making the discovery even more unique. Researchers believe it could be a new class of ultra-long period magnetar with powerful magnetic fields. This groundbreaking discovery was made using the MeerKAT radio telescope in South Africa and has significant implications for understanding neutron stars and their evolution.
