Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor spoke candidly at the India Today Conclave 2026 about his remarkable four-decade career in Indian cinema. When compared to the legendary Dev Anand, Kapoor responded, ‘Nobody can be Dev Anand. He’s the greatest.’ The actor shared the story behind his iconic stubble, revealing that in the early 1980s, when the industry was dominated by Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra and Vinod Khanna, filmmakers told him he looked too young.
Kapoor recalled his rejection from FTII, where he confronted director Girish Karnad asking, ‘What is acting to do with academics? I might not be that educated. Let me perform in front of you.’ Karnad told him rules are rules.
Kapoor also revealed he continues to receive royalty payments from Slumdog Millionaire, having earned nearly half a million pounds from the Oscar-winning film. He discussed his fitness regimen, his approach to choosing roles based on instinct and good filmmakers, and credited his wife and children for keeping him grounded throughout his successful career.
