Finland’s Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio has extended his support for the India European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA), & hopes flexibility will be shown by the 2 sides. Speaking to WION’s Sidhant Sibal in Helsinki exclusively, he said, ‘Finland has been advocating for EU India FTA for a long time..’, adding, ‘we have been messaging EU to have certain flexibility when we building FTAs..both parties need to meet half way’.
Both sides aim to finalize a deal by year end that could significantly boost trade and investment, given the EU is India’s largest trading partner.
The minister also spoke extensively on recent announcement of reciprocal tariffs by US President Donald Trump & then announcing a pause. Pointing that Finland is a ‘free trade minded country’, he hopes that ‘US, EU can negotiate a deal’. He expressed concerns over tariffs, explaining that it increases inflation.
The minister spoke on Finland’s DESI or digitalization, education, sustainability, innovation intiative with India, Indians in Finland’s IT sector among other things. Take a look.
