Speaking on the floor of the Tamil Nadu Assembly, Stalin accused the Union government of weakening federalism by denying funds and failing to respect state governments. He argued that self-governance is the only remedy for current administrative friction and can only be achieved through a constitutional amendment. Supporting this move, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee President K. Selvaperunthagai welcomed the report, stating, ‘We need the autonomy of the states’ and confirming that the Congress supports the demand for greater empowerment of states to protect India’s federal structure. While the Congress backs the resolution for constitutional changes, Selvaperunthagai deferred questions regarding local power-sharing to the AICC. The report advocates for a shift toward coalition governance at the Centre and increased self-government for states to ensure equitable development and political stability.
