A Tamil Nadu government report, exclusively accessed by India Today, has exposed over 350 irregularities at a pharmaceutical company following child deaths in Madhya Pradesh. The report highlights ‘critical’ and ‘major’ deficiencies, stating the cough syrup was produced in unsanitary conditions by a company lacking skilled manpower, proper machinery, and facilities. The investigation found the presence of industrial solvents, including propylene glycol and diethylene glycol. The report notes, "the percentage of deethylene glycol should have been around 0.1% and it has been found to be around 48.2%." This contamination is linked to the deaths of children in Madhya Pradesh, who deteriorated after just a few doses. The transcript also notes the Tamil Nadu drug department acted on the Madhya Pradesh government’s request during the Dussehra and Gandhi Jayanti holidays, while the Madhya Pradesh drug department was reportedly inactive.
