As Tamil Nadu’s 2026 election battle intensifies, major political shifts are underway. Former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, once a trusted confidant of J Jayalalithaa and former AIADMK convener, has joined the DMK and sought a ticket to contest from the Bodhi constituency in Erode. He met Chief Minister MK Stalin to pitch his candidacy. Meanwhile, AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswamy has reportedly shut the doors on an alliance with actor Vijay’s TVK party, refusing what sources call ‘tall demands’. In another development, Ranjana Nachiyar, who was with TVK for nearly a year, has quit the party and joined DMK. She accused TVK of not respecting women, claimed the party lacks the capability to form alliances, and alleged that party functionary Arda Vajra makes statements without the leader’s permission. Actor Vijay has stated that TVK will contest all 234 constituencies independently without forming alliances with BJP or Congress, positioning itself as a secular party.
