Supreme Court Stays FIRs Against ED Officers In IPAC Raid Case, Accuses Mamata Banerjee Of Theft

This report examines the escalating legal battle between the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the West Bengal government. The Supreme Court has stayed three FIRs filed by the West Bengal police against ED officers following searches at the IPAC office. The ED has accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of theft, alleging that she and senior officials ‘barged into the IPAC office and taking away files and devices.’ The Trinamool Congress (TMC) countered that the ED deliberately targeted the office to access confidential election data. The Supreme Court noted that the petition raised a ‘very serious issue relating to investigations by ED or other central agencies and interference by state agencies.’ The bench expressed concern over disruptions at the Calcutta High Court, questioning if the court had become a protest site. The court has issued a notice to the state government regarding the ED’s plea to transfer the probe to the CBI.
