Supreme Court Modifies Stray Dogs Order, Allows Release After Sterilisation | India Today News

The Supreme Court has modified an earlier directive concerning stray dogs, expanding the scope of the case to all states and union territories in India. The new order directs the implementation of the Animal Birth Control (ABC) rules, meaning dogs will be picked up, sterilized, immunized, and then released back to the areas they were taken from. However, an important exception was made in the ruling: "Aggressive and rabid dogs will not be released from shelters". The court has also mandated the creation of designated feeding areas and stated that individuals and NGOs involved in the case must deposit ₹25,000 for infrastructure development. Furthermore, animal lovers who feed or adopt stray dogs will now be held responsible for them.
