Supreme Court Cancels Actor Darshan's Bail, Cites 'Serious Legal Infirmity' In High Court Order

The Supreme Court has cancelled the bail granted to actor Akhtar Darshan, citing a "serious legal infirmity" in the High Court’s order. The Apex Court stated there was no legal reason to grant bail, calling the High Court’s decision an "arbitrary exercise" and "perverse and wholly unwarranted." The court emphasized that "Liberty to Darshan poses risk of derailing administration of justice." The Supreme Court also issued a strict warning to jail authorities and the Karnataka administration against providing any special treatment to the actor, threatening suspension of officials if such instances occur. Darshan is accused in a conspiracy to murder a fan. The High Court had previously allowed Darshan to travel abroad for a movie shoot, which drew criticism. He is now to be taken back into custody and sent to jail immediately.
