A political and judicial firestorm has erupted in Tamil Nadu after DMK and INDIA bloc MPs submitted an impeachment motion against Madras High Court Justice G.R. Swaminathan. The motion, backed by over 100 MPs, was presented to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, alleging judicial partiality and decisions based on political ideology. The move follows the judge’s ruling in the Karthigai Deepam controversy, permitting a lamp to be lit at Thiruparankundram. Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai condemned the motion as an attempt to threaten the judiciary. Meanwhile, in a separate development, the Goa government has demolished the illegally constructed Romeo Lane club in Vagator. This action follows a deadly fire at another club owned by the fugitive Luthra brothers, which resulted in 25 fatalities.
