This special report focuses on a major ‘cash for jobs’ scam allegation in Tamil Nadu, with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) naming Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. The ED has urged state police to file an FIR after its investigation allegedly unearthed evidence of widespread corruption in the appointment of 2,538 personnel in the Municipal Administration and Water Supply (MAWS) department. The AIADMK stated, ‘This DMK government is deep soaked in corruption and we demand the timely action and those who are responsible should be punished.’ The ED alleges that bribes ranging from Rs 25 to 35 lakh per candidate were collected and moved through Hawala channels. Evidence was reportedly discovered during a separate raid, prompting the ED to send a letter with a 232-page dossier to the Tamil Nadu police, requesting an investigation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) so the agency can proceed with its own probe.
