In an exclusive interview with India Today, former Indian cricket captain Sunil Gavaskar expressed deep concern over the deteriorating health of former Pakistan Prime Minister and cricketing legend Imran Khan. Gavaskar is one of 14 international cricket captains who have co-signed a formal appeal to the Pakistan government, urging that ‘a proper humanitarian treatment be given to him’ regardless of ongoing legal or political issues. Recalling their long-standing relationship dating back to 1971, Gavaskar emphasized that Khan is a global hero who put Pakistan on the world map. He clarified that the cricketing community is not entering a political discussion but is focused on ensuring Khan receives specialist medical attention, particularly following reports of inadequate treatment in jail. Gavaskar stated that while legal procedures must follow their course, they should not come at the cost of basic human dignity and health, calling for Khan to be placed in ‘very good medical hands’ immediately.
