Sudan’s military-led government has officially returned to the capital, Khartoum, after nearly three years of operating from Port Sudan during the civil war. Prime Minister Kamil Idris said the “government of hope” is back and will begin restoring basic services to residents after years of fighting. Khartoum was seized by the Rapid Support Forces in 2023 before the army recaptured it last year, allowing the government to move back amid a fragile recovery.
