Iran’s ambassador in New Delhi has indicated a strong possibility that Tehran could allow safe sea passage for Indian ships currently stranded in the Gulf region, calling India a friend. The representative of Iran’s supreme leader in India confirmed that discussions on the matter are underway. This development follows a phone conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, during which Modi expressed deep concerns over the escalating conflict and emphasised the safety of Indian nationals and shipping as a top priority. An Indian vessel, Jag Prakash, carrying gasoline from Oman, has safely exited the region and resumed its journey. Sources indicate Iran has approved passage for two liquefied petroleum tankers through the Strait of Hormuz. According to the shipping ministry, 28 Indian vessels remain stranded in the region, with 24 Indian-flagged ships carrying 677 Indian seafarers stuck west of the Strait of Hormuz, and three vessels on the eastern side.
