Maha Kumbh Mela stampede Around 10 people are feared dead after a stampede broke out early Wednesday when a barrier broke at the Sangam during the ongoing Maha Kumbh. The stampede occurred as a large number of pilgrims turned up for a holy bath on Mauni Amavasya. The Amrit Snan on Mauni Amavasya is the most significant ritual of the Maha Kumbh and is expected to draw around 10 crore pilgrims. As a result, the Amrit Snan was cancelled and several people suffered injuries, while many families have been separated. Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath about the incident and called for immediate support measures.
