The Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls is currently underway in nine states and three Union Territories. This second phase, covering nearly 51 crore electors, has reportedly placed immense pressure on Booth Level Officers (BLOs). The programme highlights challenges such as technical glitches with the digitisation app and uncooperative voters. Reports indicate that the workload has allegedly led to the deaths of three BLOs in Rajasthan. A speaker notes, ‘The immense pressure allegedly of their daily work plus SIR has broken quite a few to end their lives.’ The deadline for the exercise is approaching in December.
