Following the arrest and jailing of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk in Jodhpur after his 15-day hunger strike, Dr. Geetanjali Inmu, founder CEO of HALE, speaks to India Today. Dr. Inmu states she has had no contact with Wangchuk for over 48 hours and has not received the formal detention order. She describes the allegations against him—including provocation of violence, money laundering, and sedition—as a "smokescreen" and "absolutely baseless charges." According to Dr. Inmu, "this has been deliberately done to frame him." She refutes the financial allegations by stating that both she and Wangchuk contribute their personal money to their non-profit. She further alleges a pattern of government pressure over the past four years, aimed at stalling their work because of Wangchuk’s demands for Ladakh’s inclusion in the 6th schedule. She maintains their movement is apolitical and that they will fight the charges legally.
