On 16th May 1975 Sikkim became an Indian state and this turning point is significant from five crucial perspectives, which includes, integration with India, realisation and fulfilment of democratic aspirations, remarkable developmental transformation, strategic and national security contribution and lastly global recognition for its unique mountain identity, conserved through peace, tranquility and traditional approaches.
The Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has promised to resolve legacy connectivity issues related to road and air connectivity and the state will also figure on India’s railway map with the completion of the Sivok-Rangpo railway link. From an alternate highway, an airport expansion plan to a new railway link, the state is looking to boost tourism with a slew of measures as the Chief Minister leads the state into its golden jubilee. Sikkim’s Additional Chief Secretary (Tourism and Civil Aviation) CS Rao explains to NDTV, the plans to boost tourism by improving connectivity.
