Caught in the middle of a political slugfest over the collapse of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s statue at the Rajkot fort in Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg on August 26, the Indian Navy has initiated a joint probe, along with representatives of the state government and technical experts, to look into the circumstances of the mishap.
The 35-feet-tall statue was unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Navy Day (December 4) last year. Gusty winds at the coastline fort may have contributed to the collapse.
