Sheikh Hasina's Son Sajeeb Warns of Violence After Mother's Death Sentence, Calls Verdict A 'Sham'

Sajeeb Wazed, son of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, speaks to India Today from Washington D.C. following the death sentence handed to his mother for crimes against humanity during the 2024 student uprising. Wazed calls the trial a ‘sham,’ alleging legal and procedural violations by the interim government led by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus. He warns of escalating protests by the Awami League to stop what he describes as ‘one-sided sham elections’ and discusses the party’s legal challenges at the International Criminal Court. Wazed states, ‘Look, first of all, it’s being conducted by a government itself that is unelected, unconstitutional and completely illegal’. He also addresses the interim government’s calls for his mother’s extradition from India, arguing that India is not legally obligated to comply due to the nature of the trial.
