A US District Judge has blocked President Donald Trump from proceeding with his $400 million White House Ballroom construction project. District Judge Richard Leon granted a preliminary injunction on Tuesday, halting the plan and stating, ‘Unless and until Congress blesses this project through statutory authorization, construction has to stop.’ The injunction was requested by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, which filed a lawsuit alleging Trump exceeded his authority by demolishing the historic East Wing and beginning construction without Congressional approval. The nonprofit argues that neither Trump nor the National Park Service, which manages the White House grounds, had the authority to tear down the historic structure or build a major new facility without explicit Congressional approval. Judge Leon has paused his order for 14 days to allow the Trump administration to appeal the decision.
