This special report covers the Karnataka High Court’s Dharwad bench putting a stay on the Siddaramaiah government’s directive that required private organisations to seek prior permission for activities on government premises, a move largely seen as targeting the RSS. BJP MP Tejasvi Surya stated, ‘I have no doubt that this unlawful suspension will be quashed’. The single-judge bench of Justice Naga Prasanna issued the interim stay after a petition was filed by the Punna Chaitanya Seva Samaste, and posted the matter for further hearing on November 17. The Congress government argued it was only reinforcing a 2013 rule established by the then-BJP government under Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar. The issue follows minister Priyank Kharge’s letter to the Chief Minister demanding a ban on RSS activities in government institutions and the suspension of government employees in Raichur and Kalaburagi for attending RSS events.
