September 2025 Blood Moon: Who Can See It and Why It’s Red | WION Podcast

On the night of September 7–8, the Moon will turn a deep red for 82 minutes during the final total lunar eclipse of 2025. Known as a Blood Moon, this celestial event occurs when Earth passes directly between the Sun and the Moon, casting its shadow on the lunar surface. The red hue results from Rayleigh scattering through Earth’s atmosphere, often intensified by dust or volcanic ash. While visible to 77% of the global population, the best views will be in Asia and Western Australia. Unfortunately, viewers in the U.S. won’t witness the spectacle as it occurs during daylight hours.
