SCO Summit 2025: Xi Jinping Opposes Hegemony, Calls For SCO Development Bank | India Today News

At an SCO summit attended by leaders including Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Modi, China’s Xi Jinping spoke against hegemony in the world order. He stated, "We uphold justice and fairness and oppose hegemony and power politics," positioning SCO members as partners, not rivals. A key proposal from China was the creation of an SCO development bank and a new center to address security challenges. The summit also saw a meeting between the leaders of Russia, India, and China, described as the ‘RIC movement’. An expert, Ambassador Anil Trigunayath, characterized this as a ‘non-Western alternative’ rather than an anti-West bloc. Discussions also touched upon India’s concerns regarding its trade deficit with China and the issue of cross-border terrorism. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization countries are also expected to adopt a decade-long development strategy.
