Saudi Arabia has carried out an airstrike on the southern Yemeni port of Mukalla, targeting foreign military support linked to UAE-backed southern separatists.
The strike followed the arrival of two UAE ships from Fujairah, which reportedly unloaded weapons and combat vehicles to support the Southern Transitional Council (STC). Saudi state media said the strike caused no casualties or collateral damage.
In a strong diplomatic move, Saudi Arabia has asked UAE forces to leave Yemen within 24 hours, citing national security as a red line. Yemen’s Saudi-backed presidential council head, Rashad al-Alimi, also cancelled a defence pact with the UAE, accusing Abu Dhabi of fuelling internal strife.
The developments highlight rising tensions between the Gulf allies and could have wider implications for regional stability and OPEC oil decisions.
