Sanju Samson & Abhishek Sharma’s Record Partnership in T20 WC Final | India Today Conclave 2026

Indian cricketers Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson spoke about India’s T20 World Cup victory and their record-breaking performance in the final. The duo created the highest ever opening partnership in a T20 World Cup final, a feat unprecedented in 19 years of tournament history. Abhishek Sharma said, ‘The ultimate goal is to win the ICC trophies for your country.’ He admitted his tournament start was not what he wanted but remained focused on the team’s success. Sanju Samson, named player of the tournament, had fought for a place in the team before emerging as a key performer. After the victory, Samson returned to his hometown in Thiruvananthapuram and met childhood friends at a roadside chai shop in Calicut. Abhishek described Samson as ‘a very sorted guy, very loving guy, very caring guy’ who always supports teammates on and off the field.
