A tragic incident of civic negligence in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh has resulted in the death of Samajwadi Party leader Lal Bahadur Yadav. The accident occurred in the busy Babuganj market area when a 65-foot-high high-mast light pole, being installed near a petrol pump, collapsed onto Yadav’s moving car. CCTV footage captured the horrific moment the heavy structure crushed the vehicle just a few hundred metres from the leader’s residence. Yadav, who was also a PWD contractor, was rushed to a nearby community health centre where doctors declared him dead. Local authorities and the police are investigating the incident, with preliminary reports suggesting criminal negligence during the installation process. The victim’s family has alleged a total lapse in safety protocols by the administration and the private party involved in the work. This incident follows another recent tragedy in Mumbai’s Mulund, where a section of an under-construction metro pillar collapsed, highlighting growing concerns over public infrastructure safety and administrative apathy.
