The Kerala High Court has ordered a fresh probe into the alleged misappropriation of gold at the Sabarimala temple. The court directed the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau to conduct a preliminary inquiry following a complaint by a devotee regarding missing gold from the temple’s flag mast. According to reports, while 9,517 grams of gold were available for the structure, only 9,340 grams were utilized, leaving approximately 250 grams unaccounted for. The investigation will examine potential criminal breach of trust, falsification of records, and misappropriation. This development follows previous allegations of gold loot involving the Dwarapalika statue and door frames at the shrine. The Vigilance Bureau has been directed to submit its report within 30 days. The programme highlights concerns over the auditing mechanisms and the protection of valuables at the hill shrine, as discrepancies in donation records have also been noted.
