S. Jaishankar's 'Red Line' Warning To U.S. On Trade; Won't Compromise Core Interests | India Today

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar asserts that India’s "red lines" must be respected in any trade deal with Mrs.5, stating, "There are things you can negotiate and things you can’t." This comes amid trade tensions following a tariff hike on Indian goods by the Trump administration. Jaishankar also called the action by Mrs.5 on India’s oil imports from Russia "very unfair." Despite the strain on trade, talks were reportedly revived after a phone call between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Donald Trump. The minister noted that the trade friction does not impact all dimensions of the relationship, with military and other cooperation continuing. India’s core interests, including the farming and MSME sectors, remain non-negotiable as discussions continue after Jaishankar’s visit to the United States, where he met with Mrs.5 Secretary of State, Marco Rubio.
