Discussions centred on expanding bilateral trade in a balanced way and insulating it from sanctions. The visit came amid tariff pressure from the United States over India’s procurement of Russian energy. Jaishankar countered the criticism, stating, “We are not the biggest purchasers of Russian oil, that is China.” He also pointed to Europe as the biggest buyer of Russian LNG and noted that India’s oil imports from the US have been increasing. The meetings also covered cooperation in BRICS, SCO, and G20, signalling that multipolarity remains the cornerstone of India’s diplomacy and its economic roadmap will not be dictated by Washington.
