Russia’s Rosatom Delivers Nuclear Fuel To Tamil Nadu Amid Putin’s State Visit | Kudankulam
Russia’s state atomic energy giant Rosatom has delivered the first batch of nuclear fuel for the initial loading of Kudankulam Unit-3 (1,000 MW) in Tamil Nadu, marking a major milestone in India’s largest nuclear power project built with Russian collaboration. The special cargo flight, operated by Rosatom’s fuel division, carried advanced fuel assemblies manufactured at the Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrates Plant and landed just as President Vladimir Putin touched down in New Delhi for his two-day official visit starting December 4, 2025.
The timely fuel delivery keeps Kudankulam Units 3 & 4 firmly on schedule for commissioning in 2026-27, boosting India’s clean energy capacity by another 2,000 MW while deepening the strategic Russia-India nuclear partnership. With Units 1 & 2 already generating 2,000 MW, the six-unit Kudankulam complex will eventually deliver 6,000 MW, making it India’s biggest single-site nuclear hub and a symbol of unbreakable Indo-Russian energy ties.
