India is in discussions with Russia to resume LNG trade as the ongoing West Asia crisis has disrupted Gulf supply chains. According to sources, India may double Russian oil imports to 40 percent of its total monthly imports, up from January levels of just under 20 percent, amid disruptions caused by the Iran war. India has sought a waiver from the United States to buy Russian LNG, as supplies from Iran have been interrupted due to the ongoing West Asia conflict. Previously, the US had asked India not to import from Russia, and India had reduced its reliance on Russian oil imports following the Ukraine war. However, with the three-week-old West Asia war continuing to disrupt regional supply, India is now seeking to increase its Russian crude imports significantly to meet its energy requirements.
