Long-awaited peace talks between Russia and Ukraine have devolved into a flop show after Russian President Vladimir Putin decided not to travel to Istanbul.
Not only did Putin decline an opportunity to meet Ukrainian President Zelenskyy in person, he also further appeared to snub the whole effort by sending a mid-level delegation. Instead of being led by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, the Russian delegation is instead being led by Putin’s aide, Vladimir Medinsky.
Medinsky, among other things, is responsible for the failed 2022 Russia-Ukraine talks.
