Swedish troops marked their official entry into a multinational NATO brigade at Latvia’s Adazi military base. The Swedish armed forces said in a press release the deployment of the battalion was the first major contribution to NATO’s standing forces since Sweden became a member of the alliance.
"We are not at war, but we are not at peace either", Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said, also telling media the deployment meant Sweden was contributing and gaining security. Sweden joined NATO in March 2024 after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine forced a rethink of its national security policy.
