Russia Ignores India Over Engines Deal With Pakistan
Russia’s decision to supply RD-93 engines for Pakistan’s JF-17 Block III fighter jets has sparked strategic unease in New Delhi, where concerns over Moscow’s shifting defense priorities are mounting. The RD-93, a Russian-designed turbofan engine originally developed for China’s FC-1 aircraft, powers the JF-17 — a joint Sino-Pakistani platform that has evolved into a key component of Pakistan’s air combat fleet. With Block III upgrades introducing advanced avionics, AESA radar, and improved weapons integration, the continued Russian support for engine supply signals a deepening military-technical relationship between Moscow and Islamabad.
India, traditionally a major defense partner of Russia, views this move as a potential breach of trust, especially given the sensitive nature of regional rivalries.
