Access to Iceland’s volcanic eruption zone near Grindavik reopened to tourists on Monday, allowing them to witness the dramatic spectacle from a safe distance.
Footage shows molten lava spewing from craters, sending dense plumes of smoke skyward, while rivers of glowing black and orange rock ooze across the landscape. Tourists were seen taking photos and enjoying the breathtaking volcanic spectacle nearby the area.
This latest eruption, the 12th in the region since 2021, began on Wednesday, accompanied by over 130 small earthquakes recorded in the Svartsengi region overnight.
