Kolkata’s Sealdah court has pronounced a verdict in the RG Kar College and Hospital rape and murder case. The key accused, Sanjoy Roy, has been found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment without parole for killing 31-year-old Abhaya. The court has ordered a compensation of 17 lakh rupees for the victim’s family. Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has criticised the judgment, stating the government had demanded the death penalty.
