As Republic Day approaches, the Punjab Police has intensified its vigil along the 553-km Indo-Pak border, acting as the second line of defence alongside the Border Security Force. A specialized anti-drone system has been deployed in border districts to counter Pakistan’s use of drones for smuggling drugs and weapons. An official explained the system’s capabilities, stating, ‘Whenever a drone will fly from the territory of Pakistan… we jam it.’ The system features a detection range of 20-25 km and allows operators to neutralize threats or force drones to return to their origin. Ground teams, including dozens of personnel on motorcycles and in cars, are dispatched immediately upon detection to search for potential drops. Security has been further tightened at sensitive locations like the Attari border, especially with thousands expected to attend the retreat ceremony. The high alert ensures a hawk’s eye on any Pakistani misadventure during the national celebrations.
