A severe cyclonic storm is set to make landfall on India’s east coast, with IMD Director General Mrityunjay Mohapatra detailing the expected impact on Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. Mr. Mohapatra stated, ‘This wind of 90 to 100 gusting 110 kilometres per hour has the capability to uproot the trees and also that could be breaking of tree branches.’ The storm is predicted to cross the coast near Kakinada, bringing extremely heavy rainfall of up to 30 cm in 24 hours, which could trigger widespread urban and riverine flooding. A red alert has been issued for multiple districts, with warnings for potential landslides in the Eastern Ghats and significant damage to crops and infrastructure. Authorities have initiated evacuations and are preparing for major disruptions to transport and power.
