Sandalwood actress Ranya Rao has been sentenced to one year of imprisonment in a gold smuggling case. Along with two other accused, Rao has been denied the right to apply for bail during this one-year period. The case was registered under the COFEPOSA Act, and the advisory board will hold a meeting every three months. The case involves the smuggling of 14.2 kgs of gold, valued at over Rs 14 crores, from Dubai into Bangalore’s Kempegowda International Airport. A key detail highlighted in the case is that for the next year, she cannot secure bail. As a reporter stated, "for next one year, she cannot get a bail and she has to stay back inside the prison."
