India is managing a severe Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) shortage caused by the ongoing West Asia conflict, which has disrupted over 80% of imports typically transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has directed refineries to increase LPG production by 10% and invoked the Essential Commodities Act to prioritize household supplies. Consequently, commercial users in Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Kolkata face significant delivery delays, forcing some restaurants to close or modify menus. To ensure energy resilience, the government is now sourcing fuel from 40 countries. Geopolitical analyst Trita Parsi warns of prolonged economic and humanitarian fallout as the war continues. The conflict recently saw a missile strike on a girls’ school in Minab, Iran, resulting in high civilian casualties and allegations of US involvement. Amidst these regional tensions, India recorded a conservation milestone with the birth of five cheetah cubs at Kuno National Park, bringing the total population to 53 as part of the ongoing species reintroduction program.
