India has broken its five-day silence regarding the assassination of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri signing the condolence book at the Iranian embassy. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also held discussions with Iranian Foreign Minister Syed Abbas Arachi following a US submarine torpedo attack on the Iranian warship Iris Dena off Sri Lanka’s coast. The attack resulted in 87 fatalities shortly after the vessel participated in India’s Milan naval exercise. The Indian Navy deployed INS Tarangini and INS Ikshak for search and rescue operations. Domestically, West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose resigned ahead of assembly elections, with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee alleging political pressure from the Union Home Ministry. RN Ravi is set to succeed him. Meanwhile, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar filed his Rajya Sabha nomination alongside Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Kumar is expected to resign as Chief Minister on March 16, potentially leading to the appointment of the first BJP Chief Minister in Bihar.
