Rouse Avenue District Court has acquitted Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia in the liquor policy case, marking a significant setback for the Centre and Central Agencies. Kejriwal spent over 150 days in jail while Sisodia spent 530 days, with both arrested ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. The court order indicated very little evidence against the accused, with witness statements not matching. The case has hung over Kejriwal’s political career for four years and severely dented his anti-corruption reputation. The opposition has raised questions about the timing of arrests and alleged misuse of agencies, noting that 95 per cent of Enforcement Directorate political cases target opposition leaders. The Aam Aadmi Party announced a press conference following the acquittal. The verdict gives the party an opportunity to reclaim moral high ground ahead of upcoming assembly elections in Punjab, Gujarat, and other states, though recovering lost political ground remains challenging.
