Rajasthan Cough Syrup Deaths: Doctor Arrested, IMA Asks Who Are The Real Killers? | India Today News

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) is demanding the immediate release of Dr. Praveen Soni, a veteran doctor arrested in connection with the deaths of 16 children in Madhya Pradesh. The children allegedly died after consuming a government-approved cough syrup named ‘Cold Rip’, prescribed by the doctor. The IMA and members of the medical fraternity argue that the doctor is a soft target, questioning how he could know the medicine was contaminated. A government report found the syrup contained 48.2% of a toxic chemical, which is described as poison. The central question raised is, "who killed our children?", shifting the focus to the drug manufacturers and government regulators who approved the formula. The report explores why the lowest-hanging fruits are being targeted while those who should be answering tough questions remain unaddressed.
