The Rajasthan government has made a significant claim regarding the deaths of four children, stating the fatalities were not caused by cough syrup. According to officials, "all four deaths are not due to cough syrup, but children had some other illnesses as well." This position contradicts claims from the parents, who said their children fell ill after taking the syrup availed through a government scheme. The manufacturer, Kaysons firm, had previous complaints, and 19 of its other products have been stopped from manufacturing. While the state’s health minister had earlier seemed to give the company a clean chit, a central health department team has now started an investigation at the company’s premises to find out what exactly was happening. This development has raised questions about a possible attempt to shift blame.
